Lucie turns ONE!

We recognize that we haven’t updated our blog in several weeks, but to be honest we feel there isn’t much for us to share with you. Our day-in day-out activities are very repetitive and not at all interesting!

Loves playing with balls like her father!

However, one interesting thing and something I feel is worthy of writing about, is our little Lucie! She turned one yesterday . One year ago,

this active yet cautious, social though shy, slightly defiant but good-natured and very adaptable to big/small changes little girl came into the world…and we feel sooooo blessed to have her part of our family!

And so, in honor of her, I would like to write a small recap of her life since May 25th, 2011.

  • She showed up a week late, but decided to put her mother through a long painful labour before coming out. But what a joy once out!
  • She became active/strong very early; lifting her head at three weeks, turning from back to front at 2.5 months, then the other way at 3.5; crawling at 6 months, lifting herself upon furniture at 7 months and walking at 10.5.
  • She is an EATER, she eats everything that is given to her and in big quantities. She is not a big girl, so I sometimes wonder where it all goes…then I remember she is her father’s daughter!
  • She started her first of many road trips at 4 weeks (travelling over 15 000km throughout Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick) and she travelled to Africa and back like a champion!
  • She has stayed, overnight, in 35+ homes in the past year. She became homeless (with her mother and father) from September to January, and just when we started to settle into a home that we started to call home (in Burkina), we came back to Canada and are living in someone else’s home!
  • She has become more and more of a blessing in our family; full of smiles, laughter, play, singing and storytelling!

We look forward to the many more years the Lord will bless us with her….thank you Lord for the precious gift of Lucie Jane!

Charles Millette,
fils d’un père humble

                   ————-     ————-    ————-    ————-

Since our return to Quebec, I (Charles) have never experienced such difficult times and brokenness in my life. However, admist these past few weeks of sadness, God has allowed me to spend some really great moments and have great conversations with my father. He is still quite there (mentally), which has been a huge blessing considering the the physical state in which he currently is in.

The post that I have decided to share with you today is for the purpose of sharing what the LORD has been revealing to me since this trial started, and it also represents in a nutshell the life in which my father lived. The morning that we left Burkina Faso, the 18th of March, I woke up really early.  The line of an old hymn resonated in my mind non-stop;

“The wise man builds his house upon the Rock”

My father could have found so many reasons to find contentment in this life; in the incredible woman he was married to, the successful career that could have made others jealous, and the charming personality that made him loved by so many.  Instead he put his trust and admiration into something/someone else greater; the Rock. My father made the choice, early in their marriage to build his life/his foundation on the LORD, on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and on the Bible.

So a few days ago, I took the opportunity to thank my father for deciding to build his life, and the life of his family, on the Rock of Jesus Christ. As I grow in my faith and mature in just everyday life, I can see just how much his influence has been on my present life decisions/choices and for the future. Because of my father’s decision and his influence on my life, I can only benefit; becoming a better husband, a better father, a better friend and a better man.

To conclude, I dare to challenge you as well as myself with this question: On which foundation do we find ourselves building our life on today? This is not an easy question to answer. I hope that you know and are certain of your answer sooner than later, so that in the difficult moments that will come out of no where, you have something to rest on.

Charles
son of a humble man

He Provides

If I could think of two words to describe our lives in the past year and a half, it would be: God Provides. We have lived in the past year difficult, unsure and confusing times than I have ever in my life….but amidst the trials God always provided; either in a physical way (i.e. roof over our heads, food in our bellies, paying our bills), an emotional way (i.e. words of encouragement, countless joyful moments) and a spiritual way (i.e. prayer, love and support from our Christian family). And in the past few weeks of craziness, when we left Africa quickly with next to nothing and having almost nothing of value here, God provided a roof over our heads, a courtesy car on loan from Toyota Rimouski, and everything needed (i.e. clothes, food, essentials) for Lucie.

Here is the proof of God’s provision…

We are only subletting, don't worry!

Look who’s walking now?

Our little energizer has been a mover since she was born!
Notre petite a, depuis sa naissance, compris comment bouger!

First, lifting her head at 3 weeks.
Then, rolling from back to belly at 2 months. Ensuite, roule dos-ventre à 2 mois.
Crawling before 6 months. Ramper? Avant d’avoir 6 mois.
Lifting herself up on furniture at 7 months.
And now….walking. Et maintenant, elle prend ses premiers pas!

We are entering a new phase in parenthood…chasing after our little energizer! Time to get in shape!

What’s cooking?

Since the birth of Lucie Jane, the joy that she has brought has definitely outweighed the more difficult times of crying and sleepless nights (which is still happening), to the point that the thought of having another one sooner than later appealed to us.

Lord willing, our little blessing that crawls, soon to be walking, will have a little brother or sister to play with! If you didn’t understand the photo, Sarah is pregnant almost 12 weeks. We wanted to share with you this little fun announcement, especially in a time of more difficulty amidst Charles’ family.

The baby is due for mid-October.
Thanks for sharing in our lives and our family both near or far!
